What Is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are procedures that use exfoliating agents like certain nutrients and acids to remove layers of the skin, revealing healthier and more youthful skin underneath. Chemical peels are an excellent choice for the treatment of:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Dull complexion
  • Mild scarring
  • Melasma
  • Sunspots
  • Acne
  • Uneven skin coloring

Different depths of chemical peels are designed to treat various skin issues. The chemicals used will vary depending on the type of peel you get.

Types of Chemical Peels

Jessners Peel

The Jessners Peel is formulated with a combination of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol. Different strength levels are available to cater to individual needs. It is specifically crafted to address more extensive skin damage beyond what typical alpha hydroxy acids can improve. It is advisable to undergo this peel as a series or in conjunction with other peels, along with a physician-grade skincare regimen like ZO Skin Health®, for optimal results.

VI Peel

The VI Peel, a cutting-edge skincare treatment, combines trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, retinoic acid, phenol, and vitamin C in varying strengths tailored to individual skin needs. Addressing issues like fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars, it surpasses traditional peels. For optimal results, undergo the VI Peel in a series or alongside other peels, complemented by a physician-grade skincare routine like ZO Skin Health. Reveal a revitalized, youthful complexion with the transformative power of the VI Peel.

The Process

The first step of getting a chemical peel is scheduling a consultation so one of our licensed clinical aestheticians can make the best recommendation. If you are a good candidate for chemical peels, the process will begin with cleansing and prepping your skin to remove excess oils.

Following a comprehensive consultation, your licensed clinical aesthetician skillfully applies the chemical solution to your skin, allowing it to remain for 5 to 15 minutes, adjusted based on the chosen peel strength. Subsequently, the aesthetician gently removes the solution using water or a rinse agent.

Results & Aftercare

There is minimal downtime after a chemical peel. Your skin may show mild flaking or peel more significantly, depending on the type of peel. This exfoliation typically lasts 5-7 days—your skin benefits from any level of shedding. Your licensed clinical aesthetician may give you special creams for aftercare.

For the first few days after a peel, avoid activities that make you sweat, as sweat can introduce bacteria into the area. You will want to stay out of saunas, hot tubs, and tanning beds for 24 hours. Make sure to wear sunscreen — even if it is cloudy outside — and stay out of the sun.

After undergoing a chemical peel, we highly recommend indulging in a rejuvenating facial or Glacial Rx Facial approximately two weeks later. This strategic timing allows for optimal healing and complements the benefits of both treatments, ensuring your skin receives the care it deserves. Consult with our skincare professionals to personalize the ideal post-peel facial experience tailored to your unique skin needs.
